Register Republican To Make A Big Difference – Please Hear Me Out!
Independent / Decline-to-State voters! Why should you register Republican? Because you are being cheated if you do not. Here’s why.
· Money and endorsements go only to those candidates selected by power brokers in Sacramento
· Highly qualified candidates get ignored even when running against weak candidates
· No true debate occurs between the candidates and voters are disenfranchised
To get elected to State Assembly, you need a great candidate, money to get a message out, and endorsements that show the candidate has credibility. What gets in the way of a great candidate getting the latter two items is the power brokers in Sacramento who rate Assembly districts as “safe,” meaning it will be easily held by either a Republican or a Democrat candidate or “competitive,” meaning a true race will be run. Unfortunately, most Assembly districts are not competitive. Most are Safe Democrat.
What this means for the great candidate from the wrong party running in a safe district is that hundreds of thousands of dollars will flow to oftentimes a very unqualified candidate. The great candidate will receive no funding from logical sources, his or her party will not send resources, will get no news coverage, and his or her opponent will not debate. This is simply because his or her name is not on a list in Sacramento.
What does this have to do with how you are registered? The registration numbers directly affect the “safe” and “competitive” designations. If not enough people are registered Republican for example, the power brokers in Sacramento, not people where you live, simply decide that a Democrat will win the seat, pretty much cutting off what may be the better candidate from funding and endorsements. YOU will never have the chance to hear the more qualified candidate’s message because he or she will not have the money to buy advertising and send mailers. Even his or her political party will ignore the great candidate. More importantly, the less qualified candidate will never debate his stronger opponent, but will use those hundreds of thousands of dollars to deliver a message that never gets challenged. The news organizations will endorse that candidate as well. It is the “safe” bet!
Want to stop this madness and convert the Central Coast to at least a competitive district? Change your registration to “Republican”. When enough people do this, the power brokers in Sacramento will notice, the word will get out, and the Republican candidate will at least have a chance to get a message out and the Democrat will be forced to debate. You can always vote for the candidate you want, but changing your registration to “Republican” helps the democratic process and takes away the absurd advantage California politics gives to one party over another in safe districts.
